Teen girls who receive the HPV vaccine are not more likely to have sex. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the vaccine for girls and boys ages 11 and 12 and for older teens and young adults not yet vaccinated. HPV can cause cervical cancer, genital warts and other diseases. Infection rates with sexually transmitted diseases other than HPV were the same among vaccinated and unvaccinated girls, indicating that vaccinated girls were no more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior than unvaccinated girls. As of 2013 (most recent data available), only 38% of girls and 14% of boys had received the shots.
