Lyme disease may be sexually transmitted. Researchers found Lyme bacteria in all of the vaginal secretions from female study participants and in almost half of the semen from male participants with Lyme disease. Identical strains of the bacteria were found in married couples having unprotected sex, suggesting that sexual transmission occurs. If you are concerned about Lyme disease, talk to your doctor about being tested and treated.
